Robert B. Thompson III

Subjects: Practicum I & II and Engineering II

Mr. Thompson serves as the Center for Engineering Director. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Old Dominion University. Mr. Thompson has worked on research dealing with stir welding also known as friction welding. He also worked on research in Bio-Medical Engineering with UVA. Mr. Thompson has a background in turbine blade manufacturing. He has been working in education for 21 years in which 16 of them have been with the Center for Engineering.

Kennith R. Hicks

Subjects: Engineering I and Engineering Analysis and Applications II

Mr. Hicks serves as an instructor in the Center for Engineering. He received his undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary. Various prior jobs and a love for tinkering led Mr. Hicks to make the switch from teaching math to working in the Center for Engineering. With a background in 3d Printing, artistic endeavors, sales, and construction, Mr. Hicks brings a wide range of connections to the Center for Engineering program. Mr. Hicks has been teaching for 6 years, 4 of which have been with the Center for Engineering.

Grant Hunnicutt

Subjects: Technical, Engineering, Architectural Drawing, and Aerospace Technology

Mr. Hunnicutt is a graduate of Virginia Tech. He worked in industry for many years as a commercial construction manager, draftsman, and cabinet maker. He taught CAD at the Colonial Heights Technical Center from 2016 - 2023, and has been at the Highland Springs Center for Engineering since fall of 2023. Mr. Hunnicutt is also a Technology Student Association advisor.
